The Xshielder iPhone 17 is an ATEX- and IECEx-certified smartphone solution for Zone 1/21, with protection methods Ex db IIC T6 Gb for gas atmospheres and Ex tb IIIC T80°C Db for dust atmospheres, valid across an ambient temperature range of -20°C to +50°C. The certified enclosure is designed and manufactured in Norway and delivers the lightest and slimmest ATEX/IECEx Zone 1/21-certified smartphone solution to date, with a total weight of 330 grams and a profile of 16.1 mm.
The integrated device is an Apple iPhone 17 featuring a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, an A19 processor, a 48 MP Dual Fusion camera system with 2× optical zoom, and an 18 MP front camera with Face ID. Wireless charging is supported at up to 25W, while the 3,692 mAh battery is sized for a full work shift. Connectivity capabilities include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 5G, enabling demanding digital field workflows without compromise.
The configuration preserves access to all four microphones and both speakers for unimpeded field communications. Safe operation at height is facilitated by an integrated lanyard attachment certified in accordance with the NS-9611 standard.
The patented replaceable lid design ensures long-term value, as the device can be exchanged or traded in upon upgrade, while both the enclosure and the phone can be recycled independently. A minimum lifecycle of five to six years, supported by software updates and a rugged enclosure, significantly reduces the annual cost of ownership compared to conventional ATEX devices.
